Escher Tessellations

Hello! This first post is going to be to show you one of my very first projects done with the fifth graders... TESSELLATIONS!
After the kids made the templates, I had them trace in pencil then outline in sharpie. I then let them choose if they wanted to add alternating colors using pastels or markers. I am showing you a couple of the ones done is oil pastels. Next time I do this I plan on only letting them use pastels. The ones done in markers came out looking plain old messy and the students agreed.
A piggy!

Cats

Alligators

Penguins

Leaves (Loved the fall colors)

So the elephant one on the bottom didn't quite come out right, but I still think it was one of my favorites. We studied the art of M.C. Escher of course. The kids LOVED trying to figure out the illusions he created.
